About Us
The crew at Compsand Surfboards is dedicated to developing and building light and strong composite surfboards.
Compsand Surfboards is a worldwide design and construction co-op that is continuously testing and making surfboards with the most of relevant available technology in resins, adhesives, foams and construction methods.
We start with proven technology such as Expanded PolyStyrene foam cores, high density rail materials (perimeter stringers), aircraft-quality fiberglass cloth, epoxy resins, and of course our beloved balsa wood.
From there we add other bits, pieces, and techniques until we’re happy with the ride, paddling, and appearance.
And as a cooperative of independant shaper, any advances in performance, build technology, or materials choice developed by one member, are immediately made available to the entire group. That way, we can guarantee that a composite surfboard purchased from any one of our members will be unparalled in (light) weight, strength, flex characteristics, and aesthetics.
We only build with the most environmentally-friendly materials available, staying away from traditional yet toxic components such as TDI-polyurethane foam and polyester resins.
Our composite surfboard building techniques have been in development for many years by founding members of this co-op, and were originally inspired by early composite builders such as Gary Young, Bert Burger, Charlie Price, Michael Jones, and Mike Sabin.
You can distinguish a Compsand surfboard from other composite boards as our boards carry the Compsand trademark logo.
And believe it or not you will be able to tell by the ride as well.
Compsand surfboards are high performance surf machines, each board individually dialed for the rider’s size, ability, local waves, and flex requirements.
Compsand boards are not stiff and corky as some imported mass produced epoxies are known to be.
Please don't confuse “epoxy” with “pop-out”.
