where are you guys getting your mastic tape?

I see posts about yellow and black, black being good for reopening the one side and yellow for a permanent fix.  Anyone using any different? is this the best route?

Also,

has anyone ever tried double 2 ounce over the skin instead of single 4?  pro's cons?  reason being is I have a 100 yards of 2 ounce and would rather not deal with ordering more.. haha

Also, i wanted to know is the mastic tape re-usable? or just a once only use.

Bob, i've used white acrylic sealant/gap filler in the past with no dramas, you can get tubes for pretty cheap and application with a caulking gun makes it pretty easy with a nice thin bead, but yeah it's a once only use.

mastic tape from boatbuilders supplies
do a google

i wouldnt use 2 oz at all on the outside
i use single six oz for boards for sale and 5 or 4 oz for mates and personal boards
1 layer on the inside is perfect with a few patches here and there
remember
1/8 skins makes a better board then veneer type skins

I ditched the tape thing and bought a big roll of nylon bagging material for AC Composites
along with some bag clamps.

Over the long run, I reckon it could be more affordable.

Personally I found it faster to get the bag shut with a good seal using the nylon tubing and
the bag clamps.

No fidgeting with tape and pinholes while you're trying to get it set.

I've been doing 2 oz insides using scraps and doing 2oz outsides with patches in key spots.

I don't have any long term results, but I'm north of 225 and have been pleased with
that glass schedule (though it's been in meager summer surf here in socal), but take that
with a grain of salt.

I alternate the weave on the patches.

afoaf, your boards have gotta be pretty darn light then im assuming with 2 oz under over?
I was using 3/32 for my skins but dropped to 1/16 so i dont know how confident I am in dropping less cloth too

paul, have you ever tried using 2 ounce?  wonder what the affect of two layers would be?? I had patches on my last board in certain spots and only problem I had is with the spots where you plant your hands to lift up, I pushed some flat spots in there.  Did cloth reinforcements under the wood, gonna try over this time hopefully it works out

sparrow, I found some mastic tape.. lot of people and the videos say to use mastic so im gonna give it a shot
