Howdy,

Now that we're getting new members almost every day, I thought it might be a good idea to have a sticky topic where people can introduce themselves, maybe post up a board photo, tell us who you are on Sways (if a different name)...  etc.

I'm Ben (Benny1) and I'm a compsandoholic.

I'd also like to welcome Bernie to the moderators panel.  Very glad to have you here, my friend.

Aloha
Bernhardt(Bernie) from Ewa Beach (home of oneula, haubush and pu'uloa beach parks)
born and raised on here the beach where surfing was only a reward for helping with the ever present chores on land and getting food for the table from the ocean first.

making personal-use cheap and very simple to make surfboards that don't pressure dent or breakdown after a dozen rides and are pretty to look at to boot are what we do. Make'em use them to learn and give them away or sell to break even on materials is our style..

since we rely on open jelousie slat windows to cool our non-airconditioned 50 year old single wall constructed house, hang dry all our clothes and have asthma and skin allergies , we pursue techniques and power tools that create and spread the least amount of dust that might contaminate our house our clothes or make us sick.

since 2003-2004 when we were introduced to the world of vacuum forming sandwich constructed surfboards by Charles Price of Surfgear Hawaii, we've completed 35-40 projects of all sorts, none of which have ever started from an off the shelf standard polyurethane foam blank and a power planer.

Glad to be here to support what and where I can and hopefully learn even more..

Hi guys. Great forum with lots of useful stuff.

I'm from Wellington NZ. Been lurking at Sways for a long time learning. Made my first board this year and part way through my second now. It's a bit addictive but there's nothing like riding something you've created. And there's so much to learn with these compsands. I've found mistakes on my second board I didn't even know i'd made on the first. Still have lots to learn. Once I figure out how to post photos here I put some up.

Hey y'all.

Just thought I'd head over here and see how it's going.  Nice place.

I'm a tinkerer, if that's a word, at heart.  So far I've only built one compsand board, but have used the vac bag as a tool for multiple projects since.  #2 is in the works.

Hi Pete,
Don't want to get off topic in this thread, but since you asked...
I'm still super stoked on the surftrux.  I just got 2 more sets from Dave Blake, and they look even easier to install now with the updates.  To distill my experience with them down to one line:  Trims like a single fin, turns on a dime.  I would imagine pumps like a thruster would fit in there, but I never had much luck with thrusters, so I'm not the best guy for input there.  I plan to use them in the longboard I've got planned.

When some work starts on that, I'll let everyone know.

Hey Pat, good to see you.  I haven't forgotten about the Spitfire - might be down around Thursday.  Swell's holding up here through Wed so no reason to leave  Grin  But I talked to C and he's around again too.  I'll let you know...

Aloha Pat
if you had a choice what kind of design would you put them on?
A wider nose thin funboard style or a high performance potato chip?
I have a set from Dave I've been holding out on to but I don't know which outline would take advantage of the design the best.

Bud did a high performance shortboard awhile back with them as wasn't impressed enough to keep using them and Dave has said different things about how he thinks they should be used..

I want to get the most out of whatever I put them in..
Been thinking another pulled in nose flyer style which I'm finish lamming or maybe a parmenter vector style which I should have ready for finning in a week. I was thinking 2+1 or versa plane on the vector but dave's box of goodies keeps staring at me..

thanks
