Wow, I'm impressed. Nice boards, nice waves and you make happy-women-makers too.. Which came first jewelry or surfboards?
Whats the foam in the rail shot?
Guess folks shouldn't be shocked by prices if you have a 10000$ **diamond tail** LOL!

thanks dave
well i started standup surfing at 12
and i made a couple of pupe paipos when i was 13 or 14
it was the first double concave board id ever seen that was 23 years ago (not claiming it but i hadnt seen one in my home town.)
inspired by a stingray
so i guess surfboards first
but that was it for 20 more years other then repairing boats later in life
the rail shots foam is a 3mm pvc called airex .it is more expensive and stiffer then d cell
if i could get 10K for a board
my wife would be very happy

see the cast components of the wax i carved
this is why cnc can never replace human
that was a 3 hour carving ready to cast with a 10 to 20 minute drawing and customer sales
all up about 6 hours including setting
to do it with cnc wax printer you would need
a sales person
a computer operator with jewellery design skills (unlikely)
a courier
a machine operator
another courier
then a jeweller to assemble it
and a setter to set it
with a couple more couriers
i could hand fabricate it, one off out of a bar of gold and set it in a day
and can offer a better ring at a better price then any retail jewellery store in the western world.
best of all i know what a women wants in a a short conversation
and can translate that to a drawing before a computer can even start up
blah blah blah LMAO
(why am i still poor and unkown?)
if anyone knows any workshop manager jobs going??
id be happy with 80K, an suv and random short notice surf trips.
my surfing plumber mates get more money then me
if i cant get something decent the next two years
im going to give up art forever
go to uni and gunna do a high paid no brainer
please excuse the rant

When I figured out what what involved in making a one-off wedding band to match the contours of my wife's engagement ring, I was floored. That lost-wax stuff is CRAZY! You, my friend, are a real artist. That's the kind of thing that makes compsanding look like slapping together children's building blocks.
Might want to clean those fingernails though.
Personally, I think artists with god-given talent have a duty to the world to continue to create, even if only as a sideline. Ideally as a full-time endeavor though. Just imagine the void there would be in the art world if, say, Van Gogh had gone and dug ditches instead of committing to continue painting...
Keep your ears on, of course.
Who am I to talk though? I'm trying to get an assistant-director position right now so I can afford to live in corpus christi and turn out my couple of surfboards a month, art be damned. Not like I'm dropping everything to try to make a go of my "art", such as it is. Bottom line, I work to live, not vice versa.
Anyway, again, fantastic stuff. That is the essence of handcrafted art in my mind.

are you allready a plumber?plumbing and electricians are two good trades to be in as they are protected trades(well at least i think plumbing is) by law.but at the end of the day you still are only a glorified labourer. And both have crappy aspects to them like working in sewage or pulling cables in the mud under a house etc.I'd love to invest in commercial property or something like that, Bob Jones's "my property world" made it sound ohhh so easy, but in all reality unless you have some money to start with it doesn't seem very easy at all.

Nah im an industrial electrician, shift work at a pulp wood mill.yeah 45 seems good but you have to pay for your holidays and acc levies out of that dont you? i would have thought tools would be tax deductable for depreciation???the only thing with contract work is its probably a bit hard to choose what hours you do as you often have to fit in with other trades.depends where your working i guess.i love the shift work, two days and two nights means six days per week of getting out for a surf if its worth it(although its harder to get motivated when coming off nights) but gives a pretty big window to catch those good days at the right tide.and the moneys not too bad either.
