Or maybe "We just got the bill".

We get two bills a year - one for the domain name (NZ$70) and one for hosting (NZ$260).  And the latter just lobbed in.

It hardly seems like a year since Paul signed us up for the hosting package and we started building the site in earnest.  But there you go, time does fly.

This site runs on donations.  The guys on our members pages are amongst those who made donations last year (there are a few others who prefer to remain anonymous).

If anyone would care to make a voluntary donation towards the hosting bill we just received then please feel free to PayPal a small donation to:
  contributions@compsand.com.

Note this donation is purely voluntary and please don't send too much.  We aren't trying to make a profit on this, we'd just feel guilty at big donations and be inclined to refund it... Unless you are rich. If your are wealthy please PM me to arrange sponsorship Cheesy

Contribution receipts are received by both myself and Paul and a number of others are kept informed of the current kitty value.

Currently that's approximately NZ$106.79.  Approximately because it's stored in US$ Smiley

I'll keep an up-to-date list of contributors on this thread... So let me know if you want to remain anonymous!

Thoughts? Comments? Ideas? Fish slaps?

We don't have a CompSand bank account so any transfers would have to be to a member who could then send the funds on to the PayPal account.

I've actually tried to chase this up before with little luck.

It took a recent call to my financial institution to discover that a Bank Identification Codep (BIC) is also called a "SWIFT code" or "BIC  code" or "SWIFT-BIC" (verified on Wikipedia).

Apparently (according to Wikipedia) IBAN was designed to facilitate European Union transfers and is not widely used outside of that union.

Anyway, after a few headaches I have discoverred that my FI can apparently support "SWIFT transfer" (SWIFT-BIC)  or "telegraphics transfer" (whatever that is).  Anyone willing to trust me as a middleman can PM me for details and we can still post them on here as a contributor.

OK we have had a few donations since my initial post.

In the order received:
hunty (actually before this thread so in the initial total)
RCC
Bernhardt
Ian
shwuz

One of those contributions was actually fairly big.  Big enough that I felt bad about accepting it and had to PM the person in question to make sure that wasn't going to put them out for xmas!

IMO every one of those contributors is the embodiment of the true spirit of surfing.

Aloha.

Without them we would not have this place and I think they really do deserve some recognition.

When my wife wins lotto (I dont gamble) we are going on the surf charter from hell! Indo, Fiji and all the islands. Our shout Cheesy

The kitty is now at $231.03 USD (currently $301.723913 NZD - thank you Google).

A little more and we'll break even for the year!

We received a few more contributions while I was away from the following:
surfer_dave
Benny
cj3
wouter

Giving us $321.525 USD.

I also sent the hosting fees to Paul, leaving $122.06 USD (with rounding).

I'll unsticky this thread now since we are OK for the year.

Thanks to everyone who helped out!

Got a little lazy Cheesy

We received another contribution:
  goomba271
  StrangeBrew

After allowing for the money sent to Paul that makes US$170.08.

Oh yeah, we are looking at doing a series of minor and major upgrades over the next few months.  So any contributions folks feel like making would help offset the costs.  No pressure tho.

EDIT: Typo, got another contribution and can't seem to add on my fingers!

Hi Doug -

I took the liberty of posting a link on Swaylocks to Paypal with "Compsand contribution" address.

Also paid my annual dues.

A prepaid "subscription" with some sort of debit-per-post might weed out the riff raff here and over there?

Yup just found your contribution notification in my inbox Cheesy

Thanks for that!  New site is getting close to sorted in terms of both hosting and initial and ongoign content... Which will mean you will be able to buy compsand branded tshirts and stuff to help support us... Gives folks more options.

Thanks again!
