Anyone having issues with the vac switch from the Joe Woodworker kit?

I've had it spin out a couple times...meaning the pump just keeps going well past the
tuned spot.

This seems to happen randomly.

Also, I tend to have to adjust it for each session...I'm still not quite sure if there's
more to it than just turning the screw as the vac range it keeps over the course
of a single operation (attaching skins, gluing up foam, etc).

Anyone have an affordable switch they have had success with?

I'd love something that would allow me to accurately and repeatably set a well
defined window for shut off and power on.

I've had similar issues with their switch too. Haven't found any other good priced ones though. There are a number of ways to make your own, but don't know if they would be any better.

I built a pump from these instructions just for a fun project, I'm yet to use it on anything significant, but the tests i have carried out seem to work fine.

I have a good vacuum switch that I use.  It is just like this one on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120293169274 the PIAB EVS-100 http://www.piab.com/Templates/WebBase/Datasheet.aspx?id=10291
There are a two different versions of this model.  One has a  deadband of only about 1.5", and another that has an adjustable deadband from 2" to 10" which is still much better than the JW one.  I have two of the adjustable deadband ones that I'm going to sell soon for a $35 each plus shipping.  Was not sure if I was going to post about it here, sways, or just sell on eBay.

Hi Glenn
Does the one you have for sale run on 240 volts AC as well? The link implies it would?

Edit:
Karl,
If you read this post before I said I thought it could.  But the switch is new so I opened the box and looked inside the unit, and I don't think so. It only has Common, Normally Open, and Normally closed terminals that I can see.   Maybe it is an older version.  But I'm not seeing a DPDT switch where two lines can be attached separate of each other.

I emailed them after my post here and got a response back that the literature is wrong.  No DPDT switch, just a SPDT vacuum switch.  The guy that got back to me saying that they would be fixing the info on the website.  Still it is a great switch for 120vac.

These are commercial grade vacuum switches.   I could take a picture of the inside if your interested in seeing what they look like.

Afoaf, no just 120vac for my vac system.    I do have a sub panel for 240 for other tools though  Wink .

Working on Cove Fish v2 this weekend...

bagging the bottom skin, came upstairs after it was in the bag and heard the pump start to spin.

I thought to myself, "why does it always do that when I go upstairs?!"

The current working hypothesis is that the radiant heat from the pump alters the (rudimentary)
controls inside.

Joe responded:

"Wow!.....What kind of monster is this?!".
