Hi guys, im looking for information on paulownia trees (where to buy in nz, how to look after them, growth etc).My wife and i are due for a son in april and i will be planting trees around the placenta (hopefully paulownia) with which i will be able to make him a compsand surfboard out of when they are big enough to mill.
Any information would be good as well as a reliable supplier where i can buy the seedlings in new zealand.

Hey Hunty.
Go to Sway's ,I swear I saw some  posts reffering to seedling for sale or something..

Sorry for being so cryptic .but I never thought about it until you mentioned it here..
Also I've been bagging on skins all night and I'm sleepy..

BTW. Your quote at the bottom of your posts is humbling as well as profound,,, thanks for the reality check...

I'm getting some from www.worldpaulownia.com, and I did post on sways looking for some folks to take some off my hands.   There's a 10-seedling minimum order, and I only needed a couple.    I think I found everyone I needed, but I don't get the order until april so I'll let you know if anyone falls through.

They also say on their website that you can contact them directly for international shipping, so if you wanted 10 trees (only $3.50 USD per seedling!), that would definitely be a way to go with it.

Cool idea with planting a tree for your child, I actually had the very same thought cross my mind since we're trying to get knocked up right now.   I didn't think about the placenta thing (kind of icky) but I have heard of that being done.

How young are you planning on starting your kid surfing?   Should have a millable tree in only like 5 years.   After ten years, it might be 80 feet tall!

cheers for the replys guys, Roy Stewart has put me onto http://www.productive-trees.co.nz/catalogue.html in one of the nz websites so looks like it should be sorted.

yeah apparently the placenta is reasonably good food to get a tree started, i kinda like the idea that the thing that is feeding my baby can be used to help feed a tree or three, once my baby no longer needs it.much better than just throwing it in the rubbish imo.

probably as young as possible, hopefully we will be able to have a water birth(not that a water birth will make him a surfer, but i like to think that a water birth will help him be comfortable with water).also you can take babys to swimming lessons here so i will be doing that, i think the key is teaching them to be able to swim as young as possible and getting them comfortable in the water first.
